Trauma affects more people than we might expect — with over 70% of adults experiencing at least one traumatic event in their lifetime.

As content designers and UX writers, we may not always see the impact, but the words and interactions we create can unintentionally cause harm or lead to disengagement. By understanding how trauma works, we can design content that fosters safety, supports regulation, and helps users successfully navigate digital experiences.

Megan is a certified trauma-aware research practitioner who brings both professional insight and lived experience to this work.

In this session, you’ll learn:

  • How to define trauma (Big T, little t, PTSD) and recognize its effects on user behavior.
  • Key principles of trauma-informed content design, with real examples and frameworks for application.
  • Ways to influence design, content, and engineering decisions that support user safety.
  • How to build a compelling business case using data, outcomes, and case studies.
